Bio

Ciara Rodgers is a visual artist based in Cork City, Ireland. She finished her MFA at CIT Crawford College of Art and Design in 2018 and was awarded the 2019 graduate residency award for one year at MA:AP postgraduate studios.

Gathering research from archival material, text, mythology and personal experience through road -trip photography of both the rural and urban landscape. Her work often looks at architecture as a starting point, interested in our varied internal responses to types of external space and structure, often based on personal experience. With drawing as her primary medium, photography, installation and performance are also prominent in her practice.

Notable recent exhibitions include ArtSevilla 2019|Bauhaus: 100 years since the total revolution of a language, group exhibition, Casa de la Provincia, Sevilla, Andalusia, Spain 28/11/19 – 12/1/2020 and Monuments of Abandoned Futures, solo exhibition, LHQ Gallery, Carrigrohane Road, Co. Cork 19/9/19 – 10/10/19.

Ciara currently develops projects with Age and Opportunity, The Glucksman Gallery, UCC and Cork County Council and Library Services to enhance arts experiences in the wider public sphere, reaching groups with otherwise limited access to the arts.

My love for my materials isn’t just about what they produce for me visually. My physical interactions with them are also incredibly sensory.

The scratch, grind and resistance of charcoal sticks on the page. There is a process and struggle to the rubbing, blending, etching, erasing, fine detailing in order to create a satisfactory image.

The clunky, loud flash, shutter and print of the Polaroid camera which produces an instantaneous physical artwork on my site visits feels like magic every time.
